IL Task Force - Urban Search & Rescue

The Orland Fire District currently has 4 members who participate in the Urban Search & Rescue Team as a Safety Officer, Structures Specialist and 2 Rescue Specialists.   The Team is comprised of 200+ personnel from around the State of Illinois and Iowa, and is broken down into three platoons to balance availability and response.  The team can be broken down into smaller response components to fit the needs of the disaster or requests from the State Emergency Management Agency.  In 2023 the Team was placed on alert for multiple natural disasters and responded to the building collapse in Davenport, Iowa.  The Team trains on collapse, trench, rope, confined space and wide area search scenarios.  Additionally, the Team practices on rescue size-up, hazardous materials identification, patient assessment, search, GPS location, GIS integration, water rescue, planning and logistics.
