Fire and Falls Safety Program

NFPA logo with "Steps to Safety: Prevent Fire & Falls at Home" text.

The Fire and Falls at Home program educates older adults about home fire and fall safety through group presentations. A Fire and Fall Prevention Program for Older Adults, includes supported learning and behavior change in the older adult population. This promotes independence, collaboration, engagement, and empowerment. Rooted in fire and behavioral science and sound educational principles, Steps To Safety provides the framework to impact our community to reduce incidence and injury from home fire and falls.

Please check our calendar as we gather periodically to discuss the vital topic of safety at home.  It is important to remember that our homes are meant to be a place of comfort, security, and peace.   However, they can also present risks, particularly when it comes to fire and fall hazards.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has created the Steps to Safety Program, specifically designed to address these risks and help older adults stay safe and independent.  With aging, certain factors such as reduced mobility, hearing or vision challenges, and slower response times can increase vulnerability to fires and fall.  But the good new is that many of these risks can be significantly reduced through simple, actionable steps.

During this program, we’ll explore:

·         Fire Safety:  How to prevent fires in your home and ensure you’re prepared to respond if one occurs.

·         Fall Prevention:  Easy ways to reduce hazards and make your living spaces safer.

Our goal is to provide you with practical tips that you can start using today, empowering you to stay safe and confident in your home.  Together, we’ll learn how small changes can make a big difference.  We will look at some common fire hazards and how to address them effectively.
